Googleは2018年12月12日（現地時間12月11日）、Windows、Mac、およびLinuxなどデスクトップ向けのWebブラウザChromeのメジャーアップデート版「Google Chrome 71（12月5日）」初となるセキュリティ修正バージョン「Chrome 71.0.3578.98」をリリースしました。今後、数日から数週間にわたって順次、Windows、Mac、およびLinuxなどの対応するデスクトップ向けに配信される予定です。
今回の修正バージョン「Chrome 71.0.3578.98」は、セキュリティアップデートとして、外部の研究者が寄稿した１件のセキュリティ問題について対応したもので、外部寄稿者には6000ドルの報奨金が贈呈されています。
修正内容は、PDFiumの使用に関する問題で、Chrome 70の最初の安定版リリースで最初に取り上げられていましたが、今回のリリースで追加の修正が行われています。なお、危険度はGoogleの4段階評価で上から2番目に高い「高」となっており、ユーザーには速やかなアップデートを推奨しています。
